Crisis Lines/Mental Health Awareness

Mental Health Mobile Crisis Team – Crisis Response Service

Offers support to children, youth, and adults experiencing a mental health crisis including thoughts of suicide, distorted or psychotic thinking, intense anxiety, overwhelming depression, feeling unable to cope or feeling out of control.

Provides telephone support, problem-solving, assessing risk to safety and linking to appropriate resources within the hospital and/or community.

A psychiatric emergency is when a person is in immediate danger to him/herself due to compromised thinking and/or judgement. A psychiatric emergency may require hospital-based treatment.

A mental health crisis does not necessarily require hospital-based care and can be supported in the community by a team of mental health care providers. Examples include thoughts of suicide, distorted or psychotic thinking, intense anxiety, depression or the inability to cope.


Income Assistance

The Income Assistance (IA) program provides people in financial need with assistance with basic needs such as food, rent, utilities like heat and electricity, and clothing. The program may also help you with other needs such as child care, transportation, prescription drugs, emergency dental care, and eye glasses.

The Disability Support Program (DSP) serves children, youth and adults with intellectual disabilities, long-term mental illness and physical disabilities in a range of community-based, residential and vocational/day programs.

These are voluntary programs designed to support people at various stages of their development and independence.

Service Description

Herring Cove Apartments an affordable, supportive living environment dedicated to individuals who have experienced chronic homelessness and who have a long history of alcohol dependency.  Housing is provided in combination with 24 hour on site support staff, and is offered utilizing low barrier, harm reduction strategies.  Guided by Housing First principles, Herring Cove Apartments has the capacity to house twelve adults aged nineteen and older of any gender.

Service Description

Halifax Housing Help (HHH) is an innovative program responding to at‐risk individuals who have significant challenges in obtaining and retaining housing stability. Halifax Housing Help is both a housing support and trustee service offering case management to individuals experiencing barriers to finding and sustaining appropriate housing. Now in its tenth year of programming, HHH continues to offer services to some of the most vulnerable people within our community.
