News: The AFC’s 2017 Prime Time Challenge surpasses goal, raising $103,500 to assist entertainment professionals in crisis situations

OTTAWA—Feb. 7, 2017—The AFC is pleased to announce that the 2017 Prime Time Challenge raised $103,500 in just 24 hours — $3,500 more than last year’s challenge.

The Prime Time Challenge is an annual campaign to raise awareness and financial support for The AFC during the Prime Time in Ottawa conference – a national networking event for Canada’s most prominent business leaders, decision-makers and policy experts in the television, film and digital media production industry.

The Canadian Media Producers Association (CMPA) president and CEO Reynolds Mastin kicked off the challenge at Prime Time on Feb. 2, 2017 by announcing a donation of $5,000 from CMPA National and a matching contribution of $5,000 from CMPA BC.

“The CMPA is committed to sustaining a thriving production industry in Canada and we are proud to support The AFC’s Prime Time challenge,” Mastin said. “The AFC is a vital organization, helping our members and other industry workers maintain hope, dignity and security during crisis situations and we are thrilled with the strong response from the media production community to this year’s challenge.”

The AFC would like to thank ACTRA National, Amaze Film + TV, Big Motion Pictures, Breakthrough Entertainment, CMPA BC, CMPA National, David Zitzerman, DGC National, Don Carmody Productions, EP Canada, Eric Birnberg/Behind the Scenes Services, IATSE Local 669, NABET 700-M UNIFOR, Seven24Films, Sinking Ship Entertainment and Topsail Productions for their generous contributions.

The Canadian Media Producers Association is Canada’s leading trade association for independent producers, representing more than 350 companies engaged in the development, production and distribution of English-language television programs, feature films and digital media.

The AFC is the lifeline for Canada’s entertainment industry. Through compassionate and confidential support, The AFC helps Canadian entertainment professionals maintain their health, dignity and ability to work. In the last 24 months, The AFC has distributed over $1 million in emergency financial aid to help entertainment professionals working in all aspects of film & TV, music, theatre and dance.
