NEWS: The AFC’s 22nd Annual Big Swing Charity Golf Tournament raises $109,095 for entertainment professionals facing crisis situations
Toronto – June 20, 2018 –The AFC is thrilled to announce that the 22nd Annual Big Swing Charity Golf Tournament raised $109,095 for entertainment professionals facing crisis situations.
The Big Swing Golf Tournament is an opportunity for entertainment industry members to spend a fun day on the course in support of the work of The AFC. Producers, suppliers, directors, labour leaders, technicians and performers all took part, enjoying a round of golf followed by a banquet lunch. At the post-tournament banquet, Joanne Barrington, Membership Chair, DGC Ontario, presented a cheque of $30,000 to The AFC’s Chair Gerard Roxburgh.
“Over the past 22 years, the Big Swing Golf Tournament has become an essential part of The AFC’s fundraising initiatives, helping to raise much-needed funds for vulnerable members of our community,” Roxburgh said. “We are deeply grateful to our sponsors and prize donors for their generosity, as well as to our co-presenter DGC Ontario for their continued partnership.
“The tournament’s success is also due to the involvement of a small team behind the scenes: Wendy Moss did a remarkable job obtaining outstanding sponsorships; AFC Vice-President and Chair of the Golf Committee Sugith Varughese secured wonderful raffle prizes and sponsors. He was supported by Big Swing co-founders Phil Flagler and Judah Katz, and committee member Eugene Clark – our golf gurus who worked tirelessly to make the Big Swing a special day for everyone,” Roxburgh added.
The AFC would like to thank the volunteers for donating their time to help the Big Swing run smoothly and the golfers for their ongoing support of The AFC.
