Prime Time Challenge Update: IATSE Local 873 contributes an additional $5,000 to the Actors’ Fund

OTTAWA, ON – March 5, 2015 – IATSE Local 873 has accepted the challenge from the Canadian Media Production Association’s (CMPA) Chair Jamie Brown to show support for the work of the Actors’ Fund of Canada. Brown announced the Prime Time Challenge today at the CMPA’s Prime Time in Ottawa conference after announcing the $10,000 contribution from CMPA National and CMPA-BC in recognition of the Fund’s service to the film & TV production sector.
IATSE Local 873’s contribution to the Prime Time Challenge is in addition to its ongoing support of the Fund made through quarterly contributions equivalent to $8 per member. This ongoing support totalled $80,000 in 2014. President Wayne Goodchild is pleased that IATSE Local 873 continues to support the work of the Actors’ Fund of Canada. “It’s important for our members to know that the Actors’ Fund of Canada is lifeline for them in times of crisis,” he said. “Our contribution to the Prime Time Challenge, as well as our ongoing quarterly contributions, will help to ensure the financial stability of the Fund for many years to come. I encourage you to help your community by contributing to the Fund today.”
With over 2,000 members, Local 873 of the I.A.T.S.E. is the Union which represents Ontario Motion Picture Studio Production Technicians in departments such as : Animal Wranglers, Costumes, Craft Service, Diving, Greens, Grip, Hair, Lighting, Make-up, Marine, Props, Scenic Paint, Script Supervision, Set Construction, Set Decoration, Sound, Special Effects, Transportation. IATSE Local 873 is committed to the promotion and sustained growth of the region’s motion picture production industry by providing a highly skilled workforce.
The Actors’ Fund of Canada is the lifeline for Canada’s entertainment industry. Performers and others who work behind the scenes in film and television, theatre, music and dance can apply for emergency financial aid from the Fund. Through its Film and Television Relief Program, the Fund will help hundreds of film & television industry professionals recover from illness, injury or other circumstances causing severe economic and personal hardship in 2015.
