RELEASE: ACTRA National supports entertainment professionals in need with $15,000 contribution to Actors’ Fund of Canada
TORONTO, Ont., – Dec. 17, 2015 – ACTRA (Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists) has renewed its support for entertainment professionals in need by making a $15,000 contribution to the Actors’ Fund of Canada. The Actors’ Fund is the lifeline for Canada’s entertainment industry providing emergency financial aid to professionals facing illness, injury and other severe personal hardship.
ACTRA National is a long-time supporter of the work of the Actors’ Fund of Canada. Ferne Downey, President of ACTRA National, is pleased ACTRA National has renewed its contribution. “The Actors’ Fund of Canada helps care for industry members who have fallen on hard times,” said Downey. “We continue to support the Actors’ Fund of Canada as it provides an essential service to ACTRA members, and all industry professionals, who find themselves in difficult circumstances.” David Hope, Executive Director of the Actors’ Fund of Canada, says “ACTRA National is a great example of an industry partner that shows deep regard for the health and well-being of Canadian entertainment professionals. ACTRA’s annual contribution of $15,000 helps the Fund maintain a stable funding base ready to assist when needed. We’re grateful for their continued support.”
ACTRA (Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists) is the national union of professional performers working in the English-language recorded media in Canada. ACTRA represents the interests of 22,000 members across the country – the foundation of Canada’s highly-acclaimed professional performing community.
The Actors’ Fund of Canada is the lifeline for Canada’s entertainment industry. Over 11,000 professional members of the industry from all over Canada working in all aspects of film & TV, theatre, music and dance have been helped by the Fund, which provides emergency financial aid to assist cultural workers in recovering from an illness, injury or other circumstances causing severe economic and personal hardship. Over the last 24 months alone the Actors’ Fund of Canada has delivered almost one million dollars in emergency financial aid to entertainment professionals in crisis.
