RELEASE: The 19th Annual Big Swing Golf Tournament raises $99,070 for the Actors’ Fund of Canada

TORONTO, Ont. – June 24, 2015 – The 19^th Annual Big Swing Golf Tournament in support of the Actors’ Fund of Canada was held on Monday, June 15 at the beautiful Royal Ontario Golf Club in Milton, Ontario. The successful golf tournament, which raised a total of $99,070 in 2015, brought together entertainment industry members to enjoy a day of golf and support the work of the Actors’ Fund of Canada, the lifeline for Canada’s entertainment industry.

Executive Director of the Actors’ Fund of Canada David Hope is pleased that the tournament has contributed $99,070 to the Actors’ Fund in 2015. “The Tournament has become an important part of the Actors’ Fund’s annual fundraising helping to raise the $500,000 which the Fund distributes yearly to help entertainment industry members in crisis,” said Hope. Maria Topalovich Chair, Big Swing Golf Committee and Past President, Actors’ Fund of Canada adds “The Actors’ Fund expresses its sincere thanks to all of our tournament donors and sponsors, including our returning co-sponsor the Directors Guild of Canada – Ontario District Council (DGC Ontario), our golfers, staff, volunteers and our dedicated Organizing Committee for their outstanding efforts including Wendy Moss, Hon. Sarmite D. Bulte P.C., Eugene Clark, Phil Flagler and Judah Katz.”

At the banquet lunch following the golf tournament President of the Actors’ Fund of Canada Fiona Reid, C.M. welcomed all golfers and thanked Directors’ Guild of Canada – Ontario District Council. As the returning co-presenter of the tournament, DGC – Ontario continues to show leadership in the entertainment community. The afternoon ceremonies were hosted by MC Jeffrey Knight. The tournament’s popular raffle featured even more fabulous donated prizes in 2015.

Many sponsors, donors and golfers choose to return every year to the tournament and renew their support for the work of the Actors’ Fund of Canada. The tournament is a unique opportunity for those working in film and TV to get to know people working in other areas of the industry while giving back to the community’s vulnerable members

The Actors’ Fund of Canada is a registered charity that provides short-term financial aid to entertainment industry professionals working in all aspects theatre, film & TV, music and dance. The Actors’ Fund of Canada has delivered over $500,000 in rent payments, grocery money, utility payments and other basic living expenses to clients in the last year and has helped over 11,000 entertainment industry members since it was founded in 1958. The Actors’ Fund of Canada was the recipient of the 2011 Gemini Special Award for exceptional service to the Canadian television industry.
