The CMPA’s Prime Time Challenge raises over $100,000 to help entertainment professionals in need in less than 24 hours!

OTTAWA – Feb. 11, 2016 – The AFC is thrilled to announce that the Canadian Media Producers Association (CMPA) has helped to raise over $100,000 for entertainment professionals in need in less than 24 hours. The CMPA President & CEO Reynolds Mastin, together with The AFC’s President Fiona Reid launched the Prime Time fundraising challenge for The AFC, the lifeline for Canada’s entertainment industry, at the 21st annual Prime Time in Ottawa Conference on the afternoon of Thurs. Feb. 4, 2016.

The Canadian Media Producers Association (CMPA) invited all delegates, industry members and supporters to contribute to The AFC in recognition of The AFC’s service to the film & TV production sector. “Supporting the health and well-being of members of the entertainment industry, through the work of The AFC, is very important to the CMPA,” says President & CEO of the CMPA Reynolds Mastin. “We’re thrilled at the response this year which almost doubles the funds raised through the 2015 Prime Time Challenge for The AFC.” Fiona Reid, award-winning actor and President of The AFC Board of Directors, says “The degree to which the media production family has stepped up to the plate to support the entertainment community is outstanding. We’re very grateful to ACTRA National; ACTRA Toronto; Breakthrough Entertainment; CMPA BC; CMPA National Office; The Directors Guild of Canada; EP Canada and Canada Film Capital; IATSE Local 514; IATSE Local 873 and NABET 700-M UNIFOR for their generous contributions.”

The CMPA’s Prime Time Challenge for The AFC wrapped up at 2 p.m. on Fri. Feb. 5, 2016 with $100,896 raised. In 2015 the Prime Time Challenge raised just over $58,000.

The Canadian Media Producers Association represents the interests of screen-based media companies engaged in the production and distribution of English-language television programs, feature films, and new media content in all regions of Canada.

The AFC is the lifeline for Canada’s entertainment industry. Through compassionate and confidential support, we help Canadian entertainment professionals maintain their health, dignity and ability to work. Previously known as the Actors’ Fund of Canada, in the last 24 months, The AFC has distributed close to $1 million in emergency financial aid to help entertainment professionals working in all aspects of film & TV, music, theatre and dance. The AFC believes by supporting the health and well-being of arts and entertainment professionals, the industry as a whole will benefit. The AFC was the recipient of the 2011 Gemini Special Award for exceptional service to the Canadian television industry.
