Help us help those in need
If you know someone who may be in financial need due to a recent injury, illness or another emergency, one of the best ways you can help is to let them know about The AFC. With the following information, you can help someone going through a difficult time by connecting them to The AFC.
What we do:
– Provide short-term support (usually about one month)
– Help with current bills (due very soon or recently overdue) that otherwise could not be paid
– Help with basic living costs, or emergency dental or medical needs
What we don’t do:
– Provide loans; all aid is given as charitable assistance
– Provide assistance with debt payments, income taxes or educational costs (see our application form for more information about what kind of assistance we can provide)
– Provide ongoing, recurrent or long-term support, or top up income during unemployment
How it works:
– The applicant fills out a form detailing the emergency, employment history and financial situation
– Mail, fax or e-mail it to us with documents that confirm the situation (click here for examples)
– The AFC’s Board of Directors will review the request and decide if and how we can help
– If assistance is approved, we will provide cheques made out directly to creditors and service providers
If someone is in crisis, you can tell them:
– “Have you heard about The AFC? They provide short-term assistance to help with basic needs – like housing, food, transportation – so you can deal with your emergency.”
– “The AFC is an independent charity. If you have earned more than half of your income in the entertainment industry over the last 3 years, you can apply.”
– “The AFC is confidential and compassionate.”
– “The AFC works with people in our industry all the time. They know what kind of challenges we face and understand why we might need emergency support.”
