“At a time when I was plagued by severe doubts I was given a second (and third, fourth and fifth) chance…”
– Colin Mochrie
Actor, Writer, Comedian
I would love to be able to say that from the instant that I decided to be an actor to the moment that my career took off, the journey was one filled with boundless success and financial security. Unfortunately I was never good at lying.
I was assisted by The AFC five times between 1982 and 1988 (I missed a year when I was accidentally successful). The support I received is something I will always be grateful for. At a time when I was plagued by severe doubts, I was given a second (and third, fourth and fifth) chance to do what I love to do.
We all feel more comfortable giving help than taking it. To ask for financial assistance can make one feel like a failure. Yet without The AFC, I would have surely failed. I like to think that The AFC invested in me, so that one day I could return the favour.
At times when things seem hopeless, it is good to know that we have a community that is always willing to give a helping hand.
