“I can’t begin to tell you how much my daughters and I appreciate the help you’ve given us”
– Jo-Anne Montgomery
As a single parent and a member of IATSE Local 210 I’ve always been grateful for the union income which has allowed me to provide for my two girls. But you’re never prepared for something like this…
This past spring my youngest daughter Sara was diagnosed with osteosarcoma (the same kind of bone cancer that Terry Fox had). Sara had to undergo extensive chemotherapy and have her right leg amputated just above the knee. The stress level in my family was very high and it only increased as I got behind financially because I needed to take time off to help Sara. When I received a frightening letter from my bank, a co-worker recommended that I call The AFC.
The financial assistance from The AFC was such a great relief! I’m no longer facing foreclosure on my home and I’m able to keep my car which is so essential to our family life as well as my work.
I wanted to tell my story to encourage support and challenge others to get involved. The entertainment industry has its ups and downs and we need to be supportive of each other during the “up” times by giving to The AFC. I can’t begin to tell you how much my daughters and I appreciate the help you’ve given us. Merci, thanks.
