“The AFC can make the difference between survival and destitution. It did for me.”
– Michele Brady
I had been working as an Art Director in film for eleven years when my life, as I knew it, radically changed. I was diagnosed with breast cancer. In a period of seven months, I endured four surgeries, and with each, they would find more. After my second lumpectomy, invasive cancer was found, necessitating a full mastectomy. It was feared that the cancer could spread to other parts of my body. Chemotherapy and a lengthy recovery period followed. I was offered several jobs during this terrible time, but my impending surgeries precluded me from taking them. By then, I had exhausted what savings I had and ongoing family expenses still loomed ahead.
That’s when I contacted The AFC. My application for assistance was dealt with expeditiously, and the financial and emotional support I received gave me the time I needed to focus on my recovery. Since 1958 The AFC has provided much needed aid to all entertainment industry professionals. I can tell you from personal experience that should you ever face a life-threatening illness, injury or other devastating circumstance, this incredible organization can make the difference between survival and destitution. It did for me. Please give generously to The AFC.
